Hurry Up and Smell the Roses

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Tom Brislin's songwriting is overwhelming, showing a perfect sense of catchy melodies. This is one of the exceptional albums that confirm my trust in Bandcamp as the best music platform, if you're interested in new impulses outside of the realms you already know. My chances to spot it elsewhere would be very low. I've found it by trusting in the taste of Chris Merlo, who's a great musician himself as a member of "The Yellow Box" - a band I've found on Bandcamp along similar lines. Favorite track: Your Favorite Day.

michael maffei This album is in my Top 10 albums of the past 25 years. So good that I bought 2 copies on vinyl. It is amazingly cinematic and the melodies will literally give you goosebumps.Industry In The Distance is the best song I've heard in the past 30 or so years. Favorite track: Industry in the Distance.

I can feel you hovering over me Dimming the lights on the scenery You've got my attention so spit it out I'm gaining momentum so tell me now I can feel you in the air judging me Some kind of ethereal referee But you never said how you keep score By breathing in or chasing more Hurry up Smell the roses We haven't got all day Hurry up Smell the roses Before it gets too late Now the days are getting shorter It makes my heart beat faster And I pine for the sun at nine I can feel you, I can feel you But your sudden move confuses me Holding me here like you want me to stay Then you push me again and again like you're trying to say Hurry up Hurry up Hurry up Smell the roses We haven't got all day Hurry up Smell the roses Before it gets too late Now the days are getting shorter It makes my heart beat faster And I pine Oh I pine For the sun Stick around and shine at nine Hurry up Hurry up

Now's the perfect time to take you for a drive I know it's getting late but the boardwalk's still alive Let me spin the wheel and win you a prize Hear the bells and whistles of the shiny machines You want to hold your ears but to me it's a symphony Let me hold your hand and get you something sweet All of the games we played Coins devoured by that arcade Funhouse mirrors and dancing lights Cotton candy and lemon ice I want to go on all the rides Run on the sand and chase the tides I won't forget you when you say This is your favorite day Your favorite day And when it's time to go You lie down in the backseat Your eyes begin to close to the rumble of the street You feel every turn as you sway in the car You don't have to see a single thing to know just where you are Ah, you're dreaming you're back on the beach Let me hold your hand and sweep you off your feet All of the games we played Coins devoured by that arcade Funhouse mirrors and dancing lights Cotton candy and lemon ice I want to go on all the rides Spin the wheel and win a prize I won't forget you when you say This is your favorite day This is your favorite day

When you told me not to go I nearly stayed with you I would've kept my seatbelt on Left the airport in your car Instead I kissed you once goodbye flew back to the east coast Because I knew I wasn't home When you told me not to go Do you remember when there was a moment we both sensed that we were more than friends We were not quite so shy we held on tight and closed our eyes as strangers passed us by Roses beside the bed Gave way to fears that filled our heads And I could feel us grow apart instead If I came back again Would you be waiting when I land Would you hold my hand Could the tenderness Be just enough to help forget Everything I left Look close and you will see The limits to what we could be And you deserve to find what you need When you told me not to go I nearly stayed with you I would've kept my seatbelt on Left the airport in your car Instead I kissed you once goodbye flew back on a red-eye Because I knew I wasn't home When you told me not to go

It's been so long since we've had words, I don't know where to call This place has all the charm of paintings on a motel wall Checkout time has come and I'm still struggling to move And then the day is over and I don't know what to do Maybe if I gave away my stuff I could start again with just enough A suitcase full of better plans You would understand Start the record over now, I haven't learned a thing Find me in the place where every finger wears a ring You come to me in dreams where you and I are still in love You're just about to tell me where you are, then I wake up Maybe if I gave away my stuff I could start again with just enough A suitcase full of better plans You're the only reason why I put up with this town It makes no sense to stay here now that you are not around I shake the ashes of the last bridge from my hand Put the anguish in a language you would understand Maybe if I gave away my stuff I could start again with just enough A suitcase full of better plans

Bright lights outside the glass Give the illusion of a city Isolation Punctuated by the hum of industry In the distance Like an old familiar song Paints the illusion you are with me It’s kinda scary How memories come flooding back so easily Your choice is made And always on display It glitters more than I can take But hope is hard to chase away All this time I hold on for you Waiting for an answer Stillness falls and industry in the distance Makes you feel much closer I’m roaming through the outskirts under the shadows of the city Hesitation And wondering if you’ll ever come back to me Come back to me All this time I hold on for you Waiting for an answer Stillness falls and industry in the distance Makes you feel much closer All this time I hold out for you Waiting for that note Stillness falls and industry in the distance Sings a song of home Sings a song of home

This opens far too many windows For such an optimistic child I saw the rocket leave the atmosphere before I even walked a mile Got a lot of work to do now Never give up when I fall Head in the clouds But I will make you proud On the day I get the call For liftoff The only way to go Through the blue to the black Then who knows Meanwhile back on solid ground Each day’s another game to lose Under the sky My eyes aren’t on the prize Always staring at my shoes Then you appeared out of nowhere Just long enough to spark the dream You gave me hope To carry through the cold No matter what the future brings Liftoff The only way to go Through the blue to the black Then who knows Liftoff They came and tore down our old school But left the cornerstone intact An artifact To prove we had a past Those days are never coming back But you and I, we still remember The dream is something we both share And when it’s done You’ll know how far we’ve come and you will find me waiting there For Liftoff The only way to go If we’re afraid we'll never let it show We’ll laugh and wave to our friends down below Through the blue to the black Then who knows

The space in between New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve Is a blur that gets harder to read Don’t bring the gavel down These words are all I have Save for an image now and again Can you see it Talking in code That just one of us knows Since the moment we hung up the torch I hold a candle I hold a candle This is the site Where I try to ignite What we said on those Sunday nights Our voices once were loud Our fire would never go out Though now a fading sound I still hear it No longer friends Or a means to an end But I wish I could see you again I hold a candle I hold a candle
